Physical theatre is commonly interlinked with dance, most performers of physical theatre are commonly dancers that do bits of acting instead of actors that do bits of dancing. Physical theatre uses dance like dialogue. It uses the gestures and the emotions portrayed through physical movement to tell a story or feeling a person is enduring.

One of the main directors of performances (Lloyd Newson) refers to his employee's as dancers and not actors showing that in his opinion dancers are more important to physical theatre than actors are. During the production the dance segments seem to often have certain flows or motifs that are developed and reused thtough out a certain segment, and this is commonly used in dances to tell stories. The music in the productions is often music that is easy to dance to instead of tension building music usually used in films Also physical theatre has minimal dialogue and often relies on the dance or music to portray a story and deliver the emotions and moods of the production and this shows how important dance is for physical theatre.

The physical theatre company motionhouse often uses unison in their works (unison is when two or more people do the same choreography in synchronisation) to show a mutual feeling of characters or how each characters actions are interlinked with the group.

And conclusively the audiences for physical theatre performances are often a mix of both theatre and dance appreciators which shows dances importance and influence on physical theatre.
